Fragrance Care & Storage

A fragrance is delicate. A few simple habits help your ELYRA keep its character from the first spray to the last.

Storing your fragrance

Keep it cool

Heat speeds up the changes that can dull a fragrance. Store your bottle in a cool place and never leave it in a parked car or beside a heater, stove or hot appliance.

Keep it out of direct sunlight

Strong light can alter the scent and the colour of the liquid over time. Avoid windowsills and sunny shelves. The original box is a good place to keep a bottle you are not using daily.

Avoid humid rooms

A steamy bathroom, with its constant swings in heat and moisture, is not ideal for perfume. A bedroom drawer or wardrobe shelf works far better.

Keep it closed and upright

Close the cap firmly after every use to limit contact with air, and store the bottle standing upright on a stable surface.

Wearing your fragrance

Apply to pulse points

Spray onto the wrists, neck and behind the ears, where warmth helps the scent open and develop. Hold the bottle a hand's width from your skin.

Wear it, don't rub it

Let the fragrance dry naturally instead of rubbing your wrists together, which can alter how the opening develops.

Apply to moisturised skin

Lightly moisturised skin can hold scent better than very dry skin. An unscented lotion helps avoid competing with your fragrance.

Take care with clothing and jewellery

Fragrance can mark delicate fabrics and some jewellery. If you want to scent clothing, test a small hidden area first and mist from a distance.

Understanding how a fragrance behaves

Every fragrance unfolds in stages: bright top notes first, then the heart, then the base that lingers. This is why your ELYRA can smell different after the first few minutes than an hour later.

Performance also depends on skin, climate and application, so the same fragrance can feel slightly different from person to person. If you stop noticing your own fragrance during the day, your nose may simply have adjusted to it.

Travelling with your fragrance

Keep the cap on tightly and pack the bottle upright, cushioned inside clothing or a pouch. Avoid leaving it in a hot car or exposing it to extreme temperatures. The Discovery Set's 6 ml testers are convenient for trips.

Discovery Set testers

Store testers in their original packaging, away from heat and light, and keep them closed between uses.

Safety

  • ELYRA eau de parfums are alcohol-based and flammable. Keep away from flames, sparks and strong heat.
  • For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes and do not spray on broken or irritated skin.
  • If you have sensitive skin, test on a small area first. Stop using the product if irritation occurs.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Signs a fragrance has turned

Stored well, a fragrance can keep its character for a long time. If the scent turns unusually sharp or sour, or the liquid becomes noticeably darker or cloudy, it may be past its best.
